How often should you go meatless


Have you ever considered going meatless before? Do you know the health benefits of going vegetarian for at least a day in a week? Going vegetarian for just a day in a week can improve your health and your environment. 
Whenever you go meatless, there is always a change in your diet because you will have to take some other nutrient-rich foods like beans and lentils, vegetables and whole grains to replace the meat for the day. So, it is advisable to go meatless for at least a day in a week as this may offer your body many health benefits.


Some diseases like the heart disease, some cancers, and diabetes can be prevented when a day meatless is taken. Taking foods like whole grain, whole wheat bread, oats, quinoa, brown rice, whole grain pasta, buckwheat, and millet can help prevent these diseases. Eating any of the above grains on every meatless day provides your body with the same amount of vitamins and minerals that meat will provide and also enough fiber for normal bowel function.

Since most people eat more than enough protein regularly, it is advisable to add beans and lentils to your meal on the meat-free day. This will maintain a satisfactory protein intake in addition to fiber, folic acid, iron, manganese, magnesium, copper, riboflavin, vitamin B6 and potassium production for the body.

To make your meal for the meatless day tastes good; it is better to add some vegetables. Ever wondered the importance of vegetables? Leafy vegetables like the kale, collards, bok choy, and broccoli add color and texture to your meals. They are a great source of nutrients, and they are good sources of plant calcium.

Want to have a lower risk of cancer? Why not try and go meatless a day? Since there is evidence that processed red meat consumption increases the risk of colon-rectal, esophagus, lung and pancreas cancer and that the risk of contracting lung, stomach and prostate cancers is increased by eating processed meat. Whereas the risk of contracting these cancers can be reduced by going meatless for a day in a week.

Tired of going to the gym? Why not take the habit of a day meatless? The simple truth is that It was demonstrated that vegetarians tend to have lower body weight and body mass index (BMI). This may be because of fiber present in plant-based diets which is absent in animal-based diets. This fiber results in lower calorie intake and reduces overeating as it contributes to fullness.

One other reason why you will have to go meatless for at least once a week is that vegetarians have improved diet nutritional quality as they are associated with lower saturated fat intake, and they tend to live much longer.

Going meatless, eating less meat or eating grass-fed meats for a day in a week also have a positive impact on the environment. It has been confirmed that livestock production was estimated to contribute to about 18 percent of Green House Gas emissions (GHG).
